What was Ms. Muffet eating when she sat on her tuffet? What landlocked country borders Chile and Brazil? What unit is made up of four quarts? These were some of the fun trivia questions that vexed several DUAL employees during the recent trivia competition here at DUAL North America, but more on that later!
June is national PRIDE month and is a time when we celebrate a sense of togetherness and inclusion for the LGBT+ community and recognize the impact the community has had globally. Here at DUAL, we are excited to have been a part of this important time of raising awareness.
The DUAL team came together to show its support through several avenues. For example, we changed our website, social media, and email logo colors to reflect the rainbow of the LGBT+ flag as a message of support to our team members and peers in the community.
On a broader scale, Hyperion has created a platform for an employee-led Hyperion LGBT+ and Allies Network, where we can connect and share posts. These posts include information, history, and ways to become an ally. Within this platform, we try to understand the challenges that the LGBT+ community faces in daily life, but especially in the workplace.
Strides have been made since the inception of PRIDE, and life is undoubtedly different for the LGBT+ community than it was 10, 20, 50 years ago. However, the community still faces certain struggles at a disproportionately higher rate, particularly in minorities and youth. A 2019 survey found:
While we are working to make sure our organization is supportive to our team, we would be remiss not to recognize this larger concern affecting generations to come. So, this June DUAL chose to support the Trevor Project, a non-profit organization founded in 1998 that focuses on suicide prevention for the LGBT+ community under age 25. DUAL employees came together to form teams to compete in a fun, virtual trivia competition on June 25th. We had an amazing turnout with 36 participants! Not only did this bring our company together, but it also helped to raise over $1,000 in donations for The Trevor Project. If you are interested in learning more about or contributing to this organization, visit our team page.
As one wise DUAL person has said, “We are a People First organization that believes diversity only strengthens us, and we strive to attract the best talent as well as provide an inclusive and supportive workplace for all.” – Jon Beckham, CEO.
By the way, in case the above trivia questions are still vexing you, the answers are:
Many thanks to all the DUAL employees, our partners, and the entire Hyperion family for your dedication and support so that all can feel a sense of inclusion and PRIDE!
